It’s been raining a lot in these parts recently. So what to do? Indoor activities. There wasn’t a movie I wanted to watch and I was too broke to go shopping for any of the things on my list so after two years of living here, I finally went into the Louvre! While it’s definitely not one of my favourite museums – architecture aside – I did thoroughly enjoy the abundance of roman sculptures and the works of Flemish painters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens. As for the Mona Lisa, only go if you don’t mind “appreciating” her from a flock of tourists at least four rows thick.
After a a good three hours inside and a quick cuppa just off of the backstreets of Rue Saint Honoré, I set out and became a tourist for the rest of the day. It started to rain a little so I ducked into Galerie Vivienne and had another cup of coffee waiting it out. Eventually it stopped and I made my way to Place des Vosges, a personal favourite, and sat down on a bench to read. Unfortunately about half an hour after I got into my book, it started to rain cats and dogs so out came my navigo and into the metro I ran.
Autumn is coming so I’ve taken out the teapot and the snuggly blankets to prepare for even more rain.
